Welcome to the Taishijuku Shotokan (SKIA NSW) dojo.

“Forging Character, Strength, and Spirit.”

A Passion for Karate

SKIA is the Australian arm of the global Shotokan Karate International Federation (SKIF), founded by the late 10th Dan Hirokazu Kanazawa, with its headquarters in Tokyo, Japan.

Taishi-juku” (太子塾) translates to “Academy of Taishi” (from early Japanese governance under Prince Shōtoku). Prince Shōtoku is strongly associated with learning, ethics, Buddhism, and unifying principles, so the dojo name symbolises a place where minds, values, and people are forged into something greater.

We are a not-for-profit inclusive dojo focused on hard work, dedication, perseverance, and having fun together in the process.
